About Tucson Web Designer - Diane

Rather than try to persuade you that I walk on water while my competitors sink like stones (which is quite untrue), I'll simply tell you a little about myself, my skills, and my work. If you feel we share similar values and that I can be of help to you in the achievement of your goals, I look forward to hearing from you!

A Quest for The Good Web

The web is a dangerous place. Evils abound: privacy invasion, malware, spam, site hacking, phishing emails, credit card theft, identity theft, tidal waves of advertising, and all manner of unsavory websites from which we must protect our children. However, standing in bold contrast, is The Good Web. These website gems provide a wealth of useful information, foster compassionate communication, beautify and heal, and enable do-gooders all over the world to draw attention to their causes. They are honest and free from hype. The Good Web enables the smallest of businesses to reach a global market and the quiet voice of the poet to be heard. As I drift ever closer to the sunset years of my life, my goal is to contribute my technical expertise and artistic skills to the growth of The Good Web.

Special Interests

I feel that I am a perfect match for nonprofits, technophobic artists, educators, and micro-business owners like myself. I'm especially interested in child protection and animal welfare, but any endeavor that increases the flow of kindness, light, and beauty in this world gets my sympathy.

Honoring Your Aesthetics

If there's one thing I've learned, it's that clients know what they want. They just don't always know that they know. For me, the most important (and difficult) part of the design process is trying to help my clients identify their preferences. I personally tend to favor subtle colors and gentle layouts, but if you want a site that screams with color and boldness, that is what I try to deliver. On the other hand, I don't personally care for minimalism. But if that's what you prefer, that is what you will receive. I find that one of the best ways to understand another's visual aesthetic preferences is to inquire about their taste in music. Mine is folk, blue grass, gospel, a little bit country, and classical. Of course, some types of sites by their very nature demand color schemes and layouts that go beyond personal preference. It really wouldn't work to use a grunge style for a financial site.

What I Bring to the Table

I have been programming for over 25 years, first as a hobbyist and later became a professional web designer after receiving a Web Technology degree from Pima Community College in 2002. My sites are all constructed using PHP and MySQL databases, where needed. I have also been involved in the visual arts in one way or another throughout my life, receiving a B.A. in Art back in 1972 from Hunter College (a branch of the City University of New York). These days, when I'm not spinning websites, I spin my pottery wheel. It feels good to create something tangible that doesn't vanish when the power goes off. I am knowledgeable about SEO (search engine optimization) and social networking (which I don't have much time for myself). Beyond skills, however, I bring honesty and fair pricing to the table. You get a real person who isn't trying to sell you a bill of goods.

Brief Bio

Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, I moved west after graduating from college. I fell in love with the Tucson area during a vacation at the Tanque Verde Guest Ranch in the early 70's, and moved to Tucson in 1977. Got married, raised and home schooled three children (now all successful adults). My husband, John, and I will be celebrating our 32nd anniversary this year. After experiencing major hearing loss in 1996, it made sense to turn my programming hobby into a profession. If I ever needed to return to the job market to support my children, I would possess a valuable skill that didn't require ears. The disaster scenario never occurred, thankfully, but as the nest began to empty, it was wonderful having my own little micro-business into which I could channel my energy. Please note that I can't hear on the phone, so all communication is handled through email, text messaging, online chat, and in person.
