Fun with Javascript - Target Heart Rate

Your target heart rate is calculated as a range of 50 to 85 percent of your maximum heart rate. Keeping your pulse within the target heart rate zone during an aerobic workout allows you to receive maximum benefit.

The JavaScript calculator below estimates your maximum heart rate using the formula HRmax = 205.8 - (0.685 x age). The low end of the target heart rate range is calculated using the Karvonen method, which uses the formula THR = ((HRmax - HRrest) x %Intensity) + HRrest.

Disclaimer: the only truly reliable method for determining your target heart rate is to take a stress test under the supervision of your physician.
