Custom web design is my speciality, whether it's a mini-postcard website to a full-blown web application. I strive to create quality websites that are absolutely unique, well-designed and functional. PHP is my language of choice in creating websites.
Web Graphics
The web is an inherently visual experience. Layout, color, images, and fonts work together to create a mood that can wordlessly convey your message to your visitors. There is rarely a right answer in graphic design. People's tastes are idiosyncratic, and so I attempt to draw out my clients' preferences and we go from there. If green floats your boat, it's green you shall have.
MySQL Database Programming
Databases are simply tightly organized storage areas, and depending on the application, can be used to stored passwords, page text, an email list, account information, etc. MySQL has become the most widely used database software on the web. It fits hand in glove with PHP, Linux and the Apache web server.
Website Makeovers
That 2010 look is so yesterday, right? A makeover can be a quick and easy, purely cosmetic change or it can amount to the creation of a whole new website. It all depends on your starting point and your goal. Please refer to I Don't Do Windows or OOP below. There are some situations in which I am not the best person for the job.
Content Writing
Many of my clients find writing the content for their site to be excrutiatingly difficult. If you're nodding your head in agreement, please let me try to help you. It won't be Shakespeare, but it will get your message across while simulaneously incorporating your most relevant keywords into the text.
Copy Editing
You know what you want to say, you've said it, and you know at least half the words must be spelled wrong, your grammar is ungrammatical, your run-on sentences have jogged three times around the block, and your commas have run away the with semi-colons. This is I can fix!
Paypal Integration
As they say, Paypal is "The world's most loved way to pay and get paid." Paypal is perfectly suited to the needs of small businesses. There are normally no set-up charges or monthly fees. You can accept credit cards and other forms of payment painlessly, without the security risk associated with storing sensitive data on your site.
SEO
An entire cottage industry has arisin devoted to the dark art called SEO. However, white hat SEO (the only hat I wear) involves no secrets or proprietary techniques. The Google gods themselves offer excellent guidelines which if followed, may help boost your site's search result rankings. Even with the best optimization techniques, however, the more competition there is for your keywords, the more difficult it will be to get noticed. Please be aware that if you don't have a meaningful advertising budget AND you're in a competitive field, your only recourse will be a lot of hard work.
Flash
I used to do more Flash than I do now because its future is so uncertain. With the advent of new animation techniques via HTML 5 and the rejection of Flash by Apple, I am currently recommending against its use unless a task can't be accomplished any other way. Pity. It was sure fun while it lasted.
I Don't Do Windows or OOP
If you need help with a website written in ASP (the Microsoft web language) or that uses an object-oriented templating approach, unfortunately, I will not be able to do the work.
