Quality custom web development can be a highly labor intensive job demanding considerable expertise. Many hours are expended in consultation, research, graphics production, and programming, even for a basic site. My rates are commensurate with my training and experience, yet will be found to be lower than those offered by most larger design firms. My wide range of skills and low overhead combine to make my work affordable.
To create a quote for you, I simply multiply the number of hours anticipated to complete the work by my hourly rate according to type of work. I have a higher hourly rate for database work, for example, than for X/HTML coding.
Afraid of Commitment? It takes time and experience to build a relationship of trust between a client and a web developer. If you're afraid to take the plunge and commit to an entire development project with an unknown quantity (me), please consider my Ala Carte plan. For example, you might want to start out by commissioning a single comp.
On a tight budget? While I don't negotiate my hourly rates (which are confidential), I do negotiate my time. If your budget is pinched, I commiserate. In a more perfect world, I'd work on a sliding scale according to income, like a social worker. But, alas, the bills arrive in my mailbox as often as they come to yours and this is not possible. However, I will do everything in my power to figure out a less time-consuming way of meeting your needs. Example: you've requested a custom-designed Flash gallery with a full set of user controls. I would suggest scaling back on the bells and whistles and using a simple JavaScript gallery presentation instead. That sort of tailoring could save hours of work. Another possibility is to divide the work into phases. Start out small and grow. Furthermore, I accept credit cards via Paypal so you can avoid difficult upfront payments. There is almost always a way to make the job affordable for you.
Nonprofits: I am happy to do pro bono work for certified nonprofit entities involved in causes I deeply care about, as time permits. Please feel free to contact me regarding your needs.
